GMCNA has overseen and supported netball across all teams, clubs, leagues, volunteers and players in Greater Manchester since our establishment in 1974.

About GMCNA

We’re proud to support netball teams, clubs, leagues, volunteers, and players across the Greater Manchester area.

GMCNA was founded in 1974, following changes to county boundaries under the Local Government Act. Before this, local teams were affiliated with either Lancashire or Cheshire. With the creation of the Greater Manchester metropolitan county, GMCNA was formed to support netball across the newly defined region.

Today, we are one of five counties in the North West Region under England Netball, the sport’s National Governing Body.

Our mission is to promote safe, equal, and inclusive opportunities for everyone to take part in netball, at a level suited to their needs and aspirations.

What we do

We’re here to grow and strengthen Greater Manchester’s netball community, supporting every part of the game, from grassroots to performance, and from volunteers to future stars.

We ensure everything we do aligns with our Constitution, the Regional Plan, and the needs of our members. That means:

Promoting diversity and inclusion
Recruiting and retaining dedicated volunteers
Supporting strong governance and safeguarding
Understanding local needs and managing resources effectively

Deliver Great Netball Experiences for All

We help create a safe, positive experience on and off the court by:

Promoting sportsmanship and fair play
Keeping our digital communication clear and accessible
Aligning competitions with national and regional programmes
Managing the England Netball Performance Pathway at county level

Support Access to Netball Opportunities

We help people get involved in netball at every level by:

Encouraging women and girls of all ages to take part
Developing and inspiring coaches, officials, and players
Supporting clubs and leagues to reach their full potential
Developing a Regional Plan in line with England Netball strategy
Building quality infrastructure with the Regional Management Board (RMB)
